The Flemish Centre of Music Education invited Prof. David Elliott to tell us about his findings on the occasion of our yearly Music Education Research Seminar.

This presentation applies recent findings on the fields of human consciousness, emotions and feelings to several topics in music education: for example, the nature and value of musical experience, multicultural music education, the nature and value of education, the nature of performing, and key variables involved in curriculum development. Other issues will be addressed at the request of audience participants.

David J. Elliott is a Professor in the field of Music and Music Education at New York University. From 1977 to 2002 he was Professor of Music Education at the University of Toronto. He was a visiting professor at several universities including Indiana, North Texas, Northwestern, and Limerick. He is the author of ‘Music Matters: A New Philosophy of Music Education (Oxford, 1995)’, editor of ‘Praxial Music Education: Reflections and Dialogues (Oxford, 2005)’, founder and co-editor of the ‘International Journal of Community Music’, and an award-winning composer/arranger with works published by Boosey & Hawkes.
